ABOUT THE SOLAR SUBSIDY SCHEME
The Central Govt. has launched the PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana through which residential customers (Individual homeowners) can install solar rooftop system on their premises and avail the subsidy (or Central Financial Assistance – CFA) directly from the Central Government. To facilitate this scheme, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has developed a ‘National Portal (NP)’ for the registration of applications. The whole process from the submission of application to the release of subsidy/CFA would be implemented in online mode through this portal. The portal can be accessed through the link https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in. HOW MUCH IS THE SUBSIDY?
Below is the PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Subsidy for residential households
- Rs. 30,000/- for 1 kW
- Rs. 60,000/- for 2 kW
- Rs. 78,000/- for 3 kW
- Rs. 18,000/- per kW for additional capacity up to 3 kW
- Total Subsidy for systems larger than 3 kW capped at Rs 78,000
- The homeowner has the freedom to choose the vendor.
- Only panels under ALMM (Approved List of Models & Manufacturers) can be used in the project to avail of the subsidy. These panels are domestically manufactured (DCR) and have domestically manufactured cells and are registered with the Government of India.
- The subsidy will be transferred directly to the homeowner’s bank account after the system is installed and inspected by the concerned Distribution Company (DISCOM).
The subsidy would be calculated on the basis of total solar module capacity/solar inverter capacity/capacity approved by DISCOM, whichever is lower. For example, if solar module capacity is 2.85kWp and solar inverter capacity is 3kW, the subsidy would be calculated on 2.85kW since it is the lowest. So, subsidy would be (2 kW x 30,000) +(0.85 kW x 18,000) = Rs 75,300.
Subsidy for Group Housing Society/ Resident Welfare Association (GHS/RWA) Rs. 18,000 per kW for common facilities, including EV charging, up to 500 kW capacity (@3 kW per house) RWAs get subsidy up to ₹90 Lakh. Subsidy increased to ₹18,000/kw*(*Upto 500 kW) Online Applications may be submitted on the National Portal at https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in

What is the difference between a Subsidy and Non-Subsidy Rooftop Solar System?
Subsidy: To avail the subsidy benefits from the government, the system should contain DCR Panels. What are DCR Panels? DCR panels, or Domestic Content Requirement panels, are solar panels that are made using solar cells and modules manufactured in India. These panels are required to be used in solar projects that receive government incentives or subsidies, in order to promote the growth of the domestic solar industry and create local jobs. DCR panels help to support the development of a robust solar manufacturing ecosystem within our country. What are Non-DCR Panels? Non-DCR panels are solar panels that are not designed and manufactured in India. Instead, they are imported from foreign countries.
